Solo pieces
Big band players (trombone, saxophone, trumpet and rhythm section) auditioning for Jong Metropole will be asked to play a standard from the American Songbook repertoire including improvisation on a chord progression of their own choice and a selection from the list of orchestra excerpts. All other musicians should select one piece from the list below and inform Jong Metropole of their choice via the Application portal.
The solo piece must be performed with piano accompaniment. Important: candidates are required to bring a piano part, lead sheet or chord progression for the pianist. For the standard, the candidate will either bring a lead sheet with chord progression for the accompanying pianist or bring an accompanying recording (MP3 format) on a CD or USB stick to the audition. Singers (backing vocals) have to prepare two pieces of their choice. They must also bring a lead sheet with a chord progression for the pianist or an accompanying recording to the audition.
Percussionists of the classical section do not have to prepare a solo work. Harpists can prepare a solo work (without piano accompaniment) of their choice.
All solo pieces from which you can choose are listed below. This list was last updated on 6 January 2021.
